Miss Lorraine's has provided experience and knowledge for over 70 years in the Rutland VT area. As a third generation family studio, we take pride in building a welcoming and inclusive environment for all ages and abilities. We exclusively offer classes for toddlers through adults, emphasizing that dance is for everyone. Come find your groove at MLSD!

MLSD Class Selections

Dance With Me
AGES 18 MO. - 3 YRS.
A mom and me creative movement class designed for our youngest movers & shakers. Together, caregivers and little ones explore music, movement, rhythm, and imagination while building coordination, confidence, and special bonding moments in a playful, nurturing environment.
Preschool & Kindergarten Combos
AGES 3 - 6
Introducing young dancers to the fundamentals of ballet, tap, and acrobatics in one fun and engaging class. These classes build coordination, balance, rhythm, flexibility, and confidence while encouraging creativity and a love of dance in a positive, age-appropriate environment.
Acrobatics
GRADES K & UP
A fun, high-energy class that builds strength, flexibility, balance, and coordination through limbering, balancing, and tumbling. Students develop confidence and body control while learning safe progressions in a supportive and encouraging environment.
Ballet
GRADES 1 & UP
Ballet is the foundation of all dance, cultivating the technique, strength, balance, and artistry that every dancer builds upon. Through the beauty and discipline of classical movement, dancers develop grace, musicality, expression, and a lifelong appreciation for the art of dance.
Contemporary
GRADES 3 & UP
This expressive style of dance blends the technical foundation of ballet with the freedom and creativity of modern movement. Dancers develop strength, versatility, musicality, and artistry while exploring fluid movement, and emotional expression, through choreography.
Hip Hop
GRADES 1 & UP
An energetic, high-impact class that focuses on rhythm, musicality, coordination, and style. Dancers build confidence while learning age-appropriate street-style movements and dynamic choreography in a fun, upbeat atmosphere.
Jazz
GRADES 1 & UP
This energetic and expressive style combines technique, rhythm, and performance through dynamic movement, stylized choreography, and musicality. Dancers develop strength, flexibility, coordination, and confidence while exploring individuality, artistry, and the joy of movement.
Lyrical
GRADES 1 & UP
This expressive style blends the technical foundation of ballet with the freedom, emotion, and dynamic movement of jazz and modern techniques. With a focus on connection, expression, and fluid choreography, students learn to bring their own personality and emotion to each performance.
Tap
GRADES 1 & UP
Tap is a rhythmic and energetic style that combines movement and music through intricate footwork and percussive sounds. Dancers develop coordination, timing, musicality, and performance skills while exploring rhythm, creativity, and the art of making music with their feet.

Rutland's Premiere Competitive Dance Program

MLSD is a leading force in competitive dance in the Rutland area, with over 10 years of experience introducing dancers to the excitement of dance competitions. Whether you're seeking more performance opportunities or aspiring to pursue professional dance, our competition teams enhance your dance journey. For the 2024-2025 season, our groups will participate in 2 to 3 competitions across Vermont, New Hampshire, and the New York Capital Region. The commitment is minimal, but the experience and memories are unforgettable. No matter your skill level, there's a place for you on the MLSD Competition Team.

The Nutcracker

We are thrilled to continue the tradition of bringing the magic of The Nutcracker to our dance community in partnership with Miss Jackie’s Studio of Dance. More than 50 years ago, Miss Lorraine first introduced the wonder and beauty of The Nutcracker to Rutland, creating a cherished holiday tradition that has inspired generations of dancers and families. We are honored to continue that legacy by sharing this beloved production with our community today. Our Nutcracker production is presented every other year and is open to dancers from all area studios. This special collaboration brings together dancers from across the region, providing the opportunity to perform in a full-scale holiday production while building confidence, teamwork, and a deeper appreciation for the art of dance. Featuring beautiful choreography, enchanting costumes, and the timeless music that has made The Nutcracker a holiday favorite for generations, this production offers dancers the chance to be part of something truly magical. From first-time performers to experienced dancers, all are welcomed to audition and experience the joy of bringing this story to life on stage. We are excited to announce that The Nutcracker will be returning in December 2027! Auditions will be held during the summer of 2027, with more details to be announced as we get closer to the production. We look forward to welcoming dancers from throughout the area and continuing the beautiful tradition that Miss Lorraine began over five decades ago.
